Make a smile lottery is a weekly fundraising lottery. We work with charities across the UK to help raise vital funds that will secure their future.
It only costs £1 per play, and you can choose to play every week or whenever you feel like taking a chance and doing something good for your chosen charity.
Our charity partners make a difference to those most in need all over the UK. From helping abandoned animals find a loving home, to empowering the elderly to love later life. Aiding those who have overcome a life changing illness or injury to adjust back to life, to supporting your local hospital improve the services over and above what the NHS can fund. Your lottery play will make a difference where it is needed most.
Charities rely on the generosity of the local community to provide their services, which is why fundraising is so crucial. They need help so they can continue their vital support for those who need them now and in the future.
Make a smile lottery is owned and run by St Helena Hospice, a charity based in Colchester, Essex. Therefore, all the profits of our lottery go back into the charity sector, and to where the money is needed the most. St Helena receives a small income towards hospice care from each lottery play for administering the lottery. Our aim is to provide our partners with a regular, reliable income from the lottery, giving them the chance to make a difference, and ultimately make smiles!
We have over 20 years of experience of running and administering lotteries. St Helena Hospice Lottery began in 2001, and Your Hospice Lottery was formed in 2011 when we onboarded our first partner. Seeing that we could help other charities, we launched make a smile lottery in 2017. We now support many charities across the UK. By working together, we can give them a regular and reliable income that they can plan with.
Prizes
1 x £1000, 1 x £200, 10 x £10, and 270 x £5, plus a rollover jackpot of £500, that if not won each week rolls over to a maximum of £25,000.
For our regular lottery players who have enough extra credit from their £5 monthly subscriptions, they will automatically be entered into a Super Draw where you can win a top prize of £5,000. To find our more click here.

A snapshot of last year
In the last financial year (April 2022-March 2023), with thanks to the support of our lottery players, make a smile lottery managed to achieve the following:
- Lottery Income that went towards charitable causes = £573,922.20 (38.9%)
- Lottery income that went on expenses = £741,499.80 (50.3%)
- Lottery income that went on prizes = £132,500 (10.8%)
