Age UK Northamptonshire

About Age UK Northamptonshire

Age UK Northamptonshire is a local charity providing services and support to older people and their families in Northamptonshire. Everything they do enables older people across the county to love later life. They believe later years should be fulfilling years, whether you are going through tough times or want to socialise and make new friends, they are there to help.

They provide a range of services, some free and some for which there is a charge, all aimed at improving people’s quality of life. The charity’s support enables thousands of older people to live independently for as long as they wish and are able to. They work to prevent frailty, poverty and loneliness.

Information & Advice Service provides free, confidential and independent advice on matters that affect older people. The advisers carry out telephone benefit checks and help older people to complete Attendance Allowance forms. In the financial year 2021/2022 they helped people living in Northamptonshire claim £2.6m in welfare benefits.

Telephone Befriending is a free service aimed at older people living in Northamptonshire who feel isolated and are at risk of being lonely. A friendly volunteer will call for a regular chat on the phone. The charity tries to prioritise people who do not have family or friends they feel able to rely on.

Their Extra Help Team is funded to provide care for people in their own homes in the last weeks of life and also supports the patient’s family.

Age UK Northamptonshire also provides practical services that are provided by reliable, trustworthy staff who make a huge difference to people’s everyday life - Gardening Service, Handyperson Service, Toenail Cutting Service and Home Care Cleaning Service - and their three day centres give older people somewhere to meet friends, enjoy stimulating activities and feel looked after.

From your very first game, you will be helping Age UK Northamptonshire to raise vital funds that will go back into the community, to support older people. Visit their website to learn about the other support they provide that is not mentioned here. Some examples of what your contribution could pay for:

  • £25 can provide the day centre clients with fun, stimulating activities that will have a positive effect on their wellbeing.
  • £50 helps them provide free information and advice to older people who have no one else to turn to for help.
  • £75 contributes towards the cost of helping someone make a successful claim for Attendance Allowance which can be life-changing.
  • £100 means staff can provide information and support to people with a recent diagnosis of dementia, at groups around the county, improving life for them and their families.
